Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE DIAGNOSTIC/PLACEMENT TEST?
The diagnostic test is a tool to help in the placement of your student in our curriculum. It allows us to customize your student's program and identify any learning gaps if necessary.

DOES MY STUDENT HAVE TO TAKE THE DIAGNOSTIC/PLACEMENT TEST TO ENROLL IN THE ACADEMY?
Yes, our placement tests allow us to design the best possible curriculum for your student's needs. Unlike a standardized test, our placement test is based on our curriculum. Missed questions will identify learning gaps, which will allow your Academic Advisers to assign the specific material that your child needs.

IS THERE A TRANSCRIPT FEE?
Student will receive one transcript at the end of each school year. FCA will send your transcript to the colleges as they make there request at no charge. For parents or students that request additional Transcripts there will be a $20 charge.

DO YOU OFFER ACHIEVEMENT TESTING?
Yes. We are pleased to offer our students the California Achievement Online testing every Spring. This is not a requirement- but strongly advised. The cost is $45.

DO YOU KNOW MY PARTICULAR STATE'S HOME SCHOOLING REQUIREMENTS?
No, parents are responsible to know their own state's home school laws. You may call your state home school organization for this information, or go to www.hslda.org.

HOW DO 1ST CHRISTIAN ACADEMY-Online STUDENTS PERFORM ON ACHIEVEMENT TESTING?
Students who perform well in 1st Christian Academy -Online curriculum will generally receive above-average scores on achievement testing.

I HAVE JUST PULLED MY STUDENT OUT OF A PUBLIC SCHOOL, WHAT DO I DO NOW?
States have different home-schooling requirements, so we recommend contacting your local home schooling organization as well as the Home School Legal Defense Association at www.hslda.org to find out what your state's home schooling laws are.

WHAT ELECTIVES ARE AVAILABLE FOR FIRST THROUGH EIGHTH GRADES?
There are some elective courses available for elementary students such as Spanish, however electives are not as necessary in these grades as they are in the ninth through twelfth grades. For the families that live in the Houston/Pearland area we offer additional On-site Electives as well as field trips.

WHAT DOES THE ACADEMY TUITION COVER?
The Tuition Cost depends on the Program you choose for your child(ren). The basic cost is the same for all Programs. The tuition covers the teacher access, academic advising, and all academic services such as transcripts, accreditation and graduation. Because there are two choices of curriculum, curriculum carries a separate charge.

CAN I ENROLL IN 1ST CHRISTIAN ACADEMY-Online IF I LIVE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?
1st Christian Academy-Online offers online distance learning to students all over the world. Student work is then transmitted online for the Academy to grade and record. All a student needs is access to a computer with internet connection!

HOW DOES THE ACADEMY ACCOMMODATE STUDENTS WHO ARE A GRADE LEVEL BEHIND IN ONE OR TWO OF THEIR SUBJECTS?
Based on the placement test results and transfer credits, our admissions counselors will determine the academic level of your student and customize the program accordingly. If your student is behind and needs to catch up, we can create a customized subject to help. Similarly, if your student is advanced, the appropriate level in each subject will be assigned. However, no student is permitted to skip a grade.

CAN MY STUDENT ALSO TAKE CLASSES OUTSIDE OF THE ACADEMY FOR CREDIT?
Outside courses are allowed, but must be pre-approved by the Academy and meet specific requirements in order to be included on the 1st Christian Academy-Online Transcript.

DO YOU OFFER AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT FOR OUTSIDE COURSES THAT ARE APPROVED FOR ACADEMY CREDIT?
The credit will show on our transcript as a transfer credit with the school name from which the credit was transferred from, or as a "home school" course if the course was administered by the parent.

WILL YOUR PROGRAM PREPARE MY STUDENT FOR COLLEGE?
1st Christian Academy's course of study is designed to prepare students for entrance to most universities and colleges. Due to the fact that each college or university has its own entrance requirements, the student will want to consult with the school of his or her choice in order to tailor a high school program which meets specific requirements of that institution.

WILL THE CREDITS BE ACCEPTED IF MY STUDENT TRANSFERS TO ANOTHER SCHOOL?
1st Christian Academy's transcript is accepted by all high schools. But, If you anticipate a transfer to a local high school in the future, we recommend contacting the high school to verify that all credits will be accepted towards graduation.

CAN I GET A REFUND IF THIS DOESN'T WORK?
Families who elect to send their children to FCA enter into a contractual agreement with the school for one year; therefore, they are obligated to pay full tuition as contracted either in a monthly payment plan or full tuition payment. Should the family need to withdraw the student at any time during the school year, the FCA Administration must approve to break their contract. Tuition is fully refundable if requested in writing during the 1st 10 days following the signing of the contract. After midnight on the 10th day, all fees are non refundable.

HOW LONG DOES A STUDENT HAVE TO BE ENROLLED AT THE ACADEMY TO RECEIVE A DIPLOMA?
A minimum of Twenty-six credits are required to graduate. If your student is transferring from another school, your student will need to complete a minimum of one full year, or 5 credits, with the Academy and have 4 years of Bible. If your student has been home-schooled, additional credits may be required if proper documentation and or passing the C.L.E.P. Test for those subjects with an 80% or higher. The reason for this policy is, 1st Christian Academy-Online holds an academic standard. Students that obtain a diploma must be able to meet that standard.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE BEEN HOME SCHOOLING AND DON'T HAVE ANY TRANSCRIPTS FOR MY STUDENT?
Students coming from a home school environment are gauged just as a student coming from a non-accredited school. Diagnostic testing is used to verify the knowledge in order to give credit.
